Island Trees High School Defeats Garden City 2-0 in Boys Soccer Quarterfinal

The Garden City Trojans traveled to Levittown to take on the Island Trees HS Bull dogs in a boys soccer quarterfinal game on Tuesday afternoon, November 1st. The Trojans were a No. 10 seed, taking on the No. 2 seed. The game was close, and both teams were in it right until the end of this high-intensity matchup. With Island Trees ahead 1-0 on a goal by Adonis Martinez, Garden City's Ted Spanos nearly tied the score with a little over 10 minutes to play, but his shot off of a cross sailed just wide of the goal. Island Trees would go on to score once more, on a late second-half goal by Mike Gronenthal, the team's leading scorer this season. The Bull dogs went on to win 2-0 Playing their last high school soccer game for Garden City were seniors Sean Bingham (capt), Michael Gutierrez, John Chtchekine, Cosmo Veneziale (capt), Ted Spanos (capt), Chris Skorr, James Pyatsky and Joe Capetola. Garden City concludes its season at 10-4-2 overall
