Garden City Baseball Defeats Mineola 6-1 to advance to Nassau A semifinal

In a Nassau Class A quarterfinal game on Saturday May 21st, the No. 9 Mineola Mustangs traveled to Garden City to take on the No. 4 Trojans. Darryl Tan pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts. Brandon Samardich and Scott Conetta each had RBI hits in a four-run fourth inning, and Dan Muller drove in two runs on a two-out single in the fifth to lead Garden City to a 6-1 victory. Garden City will travel to No. 3 Island Trees on Monday in the semifinals. The win was the 600th career victory for head coach Rich Smith, who has been with Garden City for the past 39 seasons. During his career with the Trojans, Smith has collected a 600-340-12 record with 16 conference titles, three Nassau titles, one Long Island title in 2000 and one New York State Class B championship in 2000....The Mineola Mustangs 2011 Varsity Baseball team is coached by Helms Bohringer with Assistant coach Barry Silverstein.
