While it might have been Senior Day at Warren King Field last Tuesday afternoon it was junior Krista Dampman who gave the Garden City field hockey team even more to celebrate.
The visiting Manhasset Indians were battling it out with the Trojans when Madison Molinari gave the Indians a 1-0 lead with 19:52 left in the second half. The Trojans weren't accustomed to trailing. They only fell behind once all season, and that was way back in the beginning of September against the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks (that game ended in a tie). It took about five minutes before Dampman would tie it up off an assist from teammate Alex Bruno. The pair would strike again, less than a minute later, when Dampman deflected a Bruno shot into the net for the game winning goal.
The Trojans finish up the regular season in first place with a 13-0-1 overall record and have a first round bye in the playoffs.
Manhasset will be looking to avenge the loss if the two teams meet up in the playoffs.
