Story:
The No. 1 Garden City Trojans won their 17th consecutive Nassau County field hockey title with a 3-0 win over the No. 2 Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks on Sunday afternoon November 6th at Adelphi University. The Trojans got to the final game after defeating Clarke High School 2-0 on November 2nd in the semifinal game played at Garden City High School. The Seahawks have been Garden City's most competitive rival the last two seasons, twice playing them to 1-1 ties but, while the Trojans defeated them 5-0 in their most recent match just a few weeks ago, no one on the GC team entered the game thinking it would be a cakewalk. Knowing they had to try and stop Alexandra Bruno, one of GC's leading scorers, the Seahawks double teamed her and applied the pressure but that didn't stop Bruno from scoring two goals and logging an assist. Bruno's first goal, at 21:52 of the first half, came from the right arc of the circle into the center of the cage. Jenna Fuchs, on a penalty corner, scored off a give-and-get-back pass from Catherine McTiernan with 7:44 left in the first half to put the Trojans up 2-0. Bruno's second goal came on a penalty stroke with 20:10 to play. Goalkeeper Laura Fanning had three kick saves and the GC defense stifled the Seahawks, leading to the shutout. Garden City will be seeking a seventh consecutive Long Island title, as they set their sights on Saturday's 1:30 pm Long Island Class B Championship game at Stonybrook University where they will face the winner of Rocky Point/Sayville. Cold Spring Harbor goalkeeper Taylor Striar made six saves for the Seahawks who finish their season at 12-3-1
