Nothing, and no one, seems to be able to stop Garden City's boys JV lacrosse team. The Trojans' latest victory came at the expense of the Jericho Jayhawks on Tuesday afternoon, April 24th. Brendan McLaughlin opened the scoring for the Trojans when he slipped one past the Jericho goalie, off an assist from Patrick Gibbons, just 90 seconds into the game. Gibbons, who would finish the game with three goals and five assists, scored the next two GC goals and assisted on Dale Stasco's first quarter goal to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead with five minutes left in the quarter. Liam Byrnes scored the next four GC goals (three of them off of assists from Gibbons) and goals by Chris Repetti (unassisted), Connor Muldoon (unassisted) and Jack Lucchesi (off an assist from McLaughlin) would give the Trojans an 11-3 halftime lead.
The second half picked up where the first half left off as Coach Flatley rotated players consistently throughout the game, including goalies Danny Dolan, Pete Luglio and Ryan McCartney. Gibbons struck again and scored off an assist from Timmy Dolan. Quinn McDonagh would score two unassisted goals within 36 seconds of each other and then assisted on the next two GC goals scored by Timmy Dolan and #22 on GC (unidentified!..please email Lauren@newsphoto.com with ID). When all was said and done, the Trojans went on to win 16-3.
As always, the potent GC offense was able to do its job because of a strong defense that causes numerous loose balls and recovers them consistently.
