Garden City senior Ed Blatz scored two touchdowns and had a third quarter, game changing, interception to lead the Trojans to a 34-14 victory over the Wantagh Warriors in front of a standing room only crowd on a beautiful homecoming afternoon at GC's Warren King Field. Wantagh took an early 7-0 lead on a 73 yard punt return for a touchdown by Brandon Watson. Before the quarter was over, the Trojans tied the score on a seven yard TD run by Tim McDonagh. Blatz scored his first touchdown of the day early in the second quarter off a seven yard pass from QB Brett Stewart. The Warriors tied the score when Will Fitzpatrick scored on a 19 yard pass from QB Gerard Roche which led to a 14-14 tie score at the half. Blatz' interception gave the Trojans 3rd quarter momentum. His second touchdown of the day then gave GC a 21-14 lead. The Trojans went ahead 28-14 after a touchdown by Justin Guterding. Wantagh attempted to make it close as Roche attempted to find Watson on third down, but GC's defensive end Danny Miller applied the pressure that led to a Wantagh incompletion on third down, forcing a punt. Miller then blocked the punt and recovered it at the Wantagh 27, setting up another GC score by McDonagh.
