The Garden City Trojans varsity
football team played host to the Carey Seahawks on Saturday afternoon October 5th. Before a standing room only crowd, and on a day that felt as hot as a late July afternoon, both teams were looking to stay undefeated. Carey was also hoping to avenge a 2012 Nassau County semi-final loss to the Trojans. The Seahawks dominated a good part of Saturday's game as senior quarterback Ray Catapano completed 14 of 19 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns. Two of those TD's were short passes to Andrew Ris. Longer throws to Matt Robison and Nick Spillane accounted for the other two TD's as the Seahawks went on to win 28-0. Garden City historian and statistician Jack White confirmed that this was the Trojans' worst home loss since 1980 when the team lost to Herricks High school by a score of 44-0. The Trojans will look to rebound next week with a 1:30 home game against Long Beach while the Seahawks will look to stay undefeated as they will travel to Elmont to take on the Spartans, also at 1:30pm.
